HAWK are a Berlin-based post-rock four piece who have recently located from London. The band consists of Julie Hawk (Vocals, Guitar), Matt Harris (Guitar), Chris Handsley (Bass), and Sam Campbell (Drums). Julie and Sam are both Irish, while Matt and Chris hail from the south-east of England. Julie and Matt first began to collaborate in 2012, with Chris and Sam joining later to form today’s full band.
HAWK released their self-titled EP in April 2016 via Veta Records. For this latest EP, the band collaborated with producer Dimitri Tikovoi (The Horrors, Placebo, Marianne Faithful) on Once Told and The Hunt with both tracks mixed by Catherine Marks, best known for her previous work with Wolf Alice and Howling Bells.
During HAWK's time in London, they gained support from The Line of Best Fit, Noisey, Clash, Music Week, The Irish Times, Radio X’s John Kennedy, Amazing Radio and BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson and Chris Hawkins.
Mathilda Homer is an up-and-coming contemporary folk artist from London. Mathilda's sound blends eclectic influences with bittersweet melodies and revealing lyrics that leave no stone unturned. Listeners are drawn into Mathilda's vivid stories that have already allowed the young songstress to become established within the London Songwriting community, with her recently writing music for the film 'Hampstead'.
Hailing from the West of Ireland, Maria Kelly has been captivating audiences with her ‘bare-boned’ live performance since the age of fourteen. Her music, a subtle blend of atmospheric-folk, tells humanising and heart-breaking tales, with ‘pin-drop’ vocal precision that’s impossible to ignore.
Following the release of her debut single ‘Before It Has Begun’ (Veta Records) in 2015, Maria has played relentlessly across the UK and Ireland. Most recently, she has returned from an Irish & UK tour, supporting Berlin-based indie band, HAWK. Previously, she appeared on the 2015 Other Voices music trail and was named ‘Artist of the Week’ by Nialler9.
Following that, her song ‘Black and Blue’ premiered in Consequence of Sound last summer, who celebrated her ‘silky smooth vocals’ and the maturing richness of her sound.
Her latest single ‘Stitches’ has been praised by the 405 (‘honest fragility, poignant pen-work’) and named as one of ‘The Best Tracks of 2016’ in The Irish Times.
Previously, she has supported the likes of James Vincent McMorrow and Wyvern Lingo and played venues such as Cork Opera House, Servant Jazz Quarters, Birthdays, The Lock Tavern, Whelans and The Róisín Dubh.
Maria was recently named one of ’50 people to watch in 2017’ in The Irish Times and is currently working in the studio on new tracks for her debut EP and developing her live sound with her band in preparation for a busy year ahead.
Sean Christopher has been immersed in music all his life. As a child growing up in the Netherlands he would listen to his father play Flamenco guitar for hours and hours every day, while his mother’s extensive vinyl collection introduced him to legendary musicians like The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, and David Bowie.
In his teens Sean attended the Royal Conservatory in The Hague as a drummer, but wanting to broaden his education, he moved to Rotterdam and began a new course in music production at Codarts, immersing himself into the world of recording and producing. Throughout his studies, Sean continued to learn and master new instruments. Shortly after graduating Sean began creating music for films and commercials, delivering for a diverse range of projects. In 2014 his song ‘Everything’, composed and produced for an international car commercial, began to get him noticed, reaching a million streams on Spotify. He then also released the beautiful track 'Wasteland'.
Back in The Hague, Sean built himself a basement studio and decided to record his first full-length album. Hidden away, accompanied only by his ever-growing collection of instruments and his dog Ollie, he began to work. In the end, it was his father's old Flamenco guitar that took centre stage and drove the recording of what was to become ‘Yonder’.
After relocating to Bristol (UK), Sean recently signed a record deal with Swedish label Dumont Dumont, home to artists including Charlie Cunningham, RY X and Josin.
Nathan Harrison, is a creative 20-year-old singer/songwriter from the UK, who has been very active on the live music scene from his early teens, playing either acoustic solo or lead voice/guitar in his neofolk band “B Yellow”. Having been captivated by the energy of performing live, he has traveled widely across the UK playing a range of venues from larger concert halls and festivals, to smaller intimate clubs and pubs.
Whilst I enjoy the creative process of making music, nothing beats the thrill of playing live music – Nathan Nathan's love for music is inspired by a variety of musicians and genres – and his song writing is heavily influenced by the sounds of Ben Howard, Passenger, Bear's Den, Bastille and the Levellers. He has created his own unique vibe to contemporary folk music with expressive vocals, and a wide ranging sound from chilled ambient-pop to reverberating folk-rock, all with a rhythmic undercurrent that quickly hooks in listeners.
With the right combination of hard work and passion, Nathan continues to expand and perfect his growing song writing portfolio and music credits. Music with B Yellow has been recorded and released across three EPs, and Nathan is currently working on a solo project with the recording and production of a EP for a release early this year.
My aspirations are to establish a career in music, be the best musician that I can be, and go on a journey to wherever music will take me - I am really excited about the plans I have in the pipeline to help me achieve my goals. Watch this space!! – Nathan
Samana is a journey of internal and external exploration. Their music is forged with its own distinct weight and significance, born from the interpretation of dreams, the study of ancient rituals, the philosophies of love, loss and death, and the quintessence of interior discovery that results from personal experience. Between themselves, Rebecca Rose Harris and Franklin Mockett are multi-disciplinary artists. Franklin crafts the instrumentation, recording, and production of the music to tape, whilst Rebecca Rose is the visionary behind the conceptual imagery, artwork, lyrics and film. The process by which all works are recorded is of great importance to Samana, who compose their art in their analogue recording studio and darkroom in the remote mountains of Wales.
